LOCAL AREA SIGHT SEEING TRIPS

MOUNT ROBSON Provincial Park interpretive centre is only 17 km (12 mi.) from Terrracana providing hiking and other activities in breathtaking view of the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies.

RECREATION Hiking trails vary from the famous Berg Lake Trail at Mt.Robson to footpaths through the Jack Pine Flats.  Groomed snowmobile and cross-country ski trails abound in the area.  Local facilities include baseball diamonds, ice arena, curling rink, tennis courts and playgrounds.

THE HEADWATERS of the Fraser River lie within the Park. The Fraser is accessible from boat launches at Terracana, Tete Jaune, Dunster and 20 km (12 mi.) north of Valemount.

CHINOOK SALMON RUN almost the entire length of the Fraser River in August to spawning grounds throughout the valley including Small River at Terracana.  They leave their eggs, before they die, battered and torn by their phenomenal return upstream against current, obstacles and waterfalls. Don't miss the opportunity to book an interpretive tour of this annual miracle in the Chinook salmon's life cycle.

WATERFALLS & LAKES Reargaurd & Overlander Falls are popular sightseeing destinations located on Hyw 16 towards Mount Robson.  Moose Lake and Kinbasket Lake have marinas and campsite. Superb fishing can be most lakes around Terracana including Shear Lake just across the river. Both Kinbasket Lake and Cedarside Park at Cranberry Lake offer sandy beaches, picnic areas & outdoor swimming.  Hike up to Little Lost Lake and many other areas offering spectacular mountain scenery.  A 2hr trip up small river adjacent the ranch will take you to a spectacular fall.

Jackman Flats Ecological Reserve 13 km north of Valemount, on the west side of Highway 5, is a beautiful area, the scenery and unique plant life that have adapted to its environment of dry sand dunes make this nature reserve a very special place.

Robert W. Starratt Wildlife Sanctuary Ducks Unlimited project at the edge of town. Local business and government recently cooperated to build 2 attractive new viewing platforms connected by an existing trail across a dike. A second walking trail to the Wildlife Sanctuary is being developed.
